Coffee has been grown in Indonesia since the early 1700s and this is largely thanks to the Dutch. Their rule of this region made it common to find sizeable coffee operations throughout the island of Java. However, this coffee can be traced to family-owned farms in the Kayumas region of the Ijen plateau.
